This week, we hear from a beautiful man who knows his way around the gridiron!
1) What’s your name, and where do you come from?
Hi Cilla [ed: someone finally gets it!], I’m Col and I’m from Melksham.
(Near Melksham anyway) The wastelands between Bower Hill and Salisbury pain. Originally from Box, where I grew up with Jamie (Podnuts).
2) Tell us a little about how you came to play Blood Bowl and your experience with the game and wider hobby.
I had a model painting renaissance over lockdown and painted my entire 40k Eldar army 8000pts (that I’d had unprimed in a box for 35 years). When I finished that marathon I bought a Skaven blood bowl team to paint. At the end of lockdown I started playing with a couple of friends, one being Jamie (Podnuts). We had our own mini league on TP running two teams each and we got hooked from there. When that finished we helped start the Bath league with Hereward and Alessandro at the Pigmar club in Larkhall. We found a wandering South African Magic player there who became a blood bowler (Doglobro).
Around this time Jamie and I met Greg (the sender) and the Stalham clan (Bob2bass/KeithMcfrenzy/Analogue-ANDroid) in Chipp for Blood Bowl dojo games and talked about doing a local league. Greg “the Forgefather” came upon the BG gang, who had similar ideas, and the great forgemation was birthed!
(there’s a jizz joke in there for Mark somewhere)
3) What Blood Bowl achievement are you most proud of?
I once surfed a chaos warrior with a snot near my own end zone and won the match from a point of near certain defeat. But how?

Snots to start turn 6 (extra time).
2 trolls ,1 skilled funhopper, 6 snots (2 rerolls in hand)
4) What’s your favourite team and why?
Skaven. No substitute for pace. Mutation access is great too.
5) Tell us about the team you’ve brought into Season III. Did you select it for purely competitive reasons, or were there other factors involved?
Humans seemed like a good, solid team to try out. Some human games are bashy and some dashy, depending on what your opponents bring. You have to adapt your playstyle between matches, which can be a challenge.
6) What was your thought process behind your roster selections, skills taken and how would you describe your playstyle with this team?
Get some fast blodge ball handlers, a decent thrower, a dedicated blitzer and some hardy brawlers.
Lots of the Div1 teams have AV8 linos (so MB on my Blitzers). Getting some additional speed on the catchers leaves them on par or quicker than the Vamp and Helf positionals in our division.
I like a chaotic game; I think I prosper in those conditions. A dwarf guard spam grind down the pitch is like nails on a chalkboard to me.
7) What are your expectations for this season? Do you have any particular goals you’d like to achieve? Who are you backing to win each division this season?
I’d love to get Bully Jean (the beast of season 2) into the FB hall of fame.

I think the Bucs’ Baker Mayfield is going to beat her to it though. Keeping the Songbirds up would be a good target now. I think the finals are a step too far for me at this point. Hopefully, I can snag a couple more points to escape a relegation battle.
Predictions.
Div 1. I think the Norse and Vamps will be in the running for the grand final.
Div 2. Green Lane Savages have the scariest team in the whole league, and I’m loving the Altered Beasts PACT roster.
Div3. I guess there’s still a tonne of extra fixtures in Div 3, but those Delf teams look pretty strong at present.
8) What’s one thing you’d change about blood bowl?
Apart from my own trust in the sure hands skill? A few of the skills are a bit crap and can probably be revised but perhaps that detracts from the value of hitting a great random skill. I’d like to see more of the lesser-known stars (even if they are crap), maybe their costs should come down.
9) What Pitch is your favourite (rules, artwork, whatever)?
The old dwarf pitch or the new chorf pitch (something clear). Not that Khorne nonsense. Same with dice, please, high contrast only!
10) Outside of Blood Bowl tell us a little about your life and main passions?
Usual sorts of things, films/sports/exercise/beer drinking on occasion. I’m looking at branching out into another game system. I want to get Dan to play Burrows & Badgers. Look at those lovely lead models Dan… Tell me they’re not charming [ed: no argument there! B&B looks like a great game].
11) Pirates or Ninjas?
My inner child is screaming “Ninjas!” All those crazy skills and weapons. Like Rob, I grew up on a diet of 8-bit Shinobi, Mortal Kombat and Ninja Scroll anime. Saturday afternoons and break times were for perfecting the art of wielding nunchucks and getting throwing stars to lodge in suitable targets without injuring siblings or classmates.
12) What’s your favourite film
Too many… The Big Lebowski, The Guard, Cool hand Luke, something from the 70s or 80s perhaps. Not a fan of the modern fare today’s youngsters have been presented with.
Thanks, Col! 😀
